Thanks to my HUGE stash from ALA, plan on a ton of Bookanista Reviews with awesome ARC giveaways over the next few months. And I thought I'd start with what was--for me--one of the most anticipated books of the year. SUPERNATURALLY, by Kiersten White.
Evie finally has the normal life she’s always longed for. But she’s shocked to discover that being ordinary can be . . . kind of boring. Just when Evie starts to long for her days at the International Paranormal Containment Agency, she’s given a chance to work for them again. Desperate for a break from all the normalcy, she agrees.
But as one disastrous mission leads to another, Evie starts to wonder if she made the right choice. And when Evie’s faerie ex-boyfriend Reth appears with devastating revelations about her past, she discovers that there’s a battle brewing between the faerie courts that could throw the whole supernatural world into chaos. The prize in question? Evie herself.
So much for normal.
I'll end your suspense right now, guys. It. Is. AWESOME!
Now, if you follow me on Twitter (or remember how many PARANORMALCY signings I went to last year) you know that I'm lucky enough to call Kiersten my friend. So that *might* make you think I'm a little biased when it comes to this book. But honestly? I was worried before I read it. Friend or no, I like what I like, and sequels are notoriously hard--especially when book one is so friggin' awesome. So there was more than a tiny part of me that was like OMG--what will I do/say if I don't like it the way I want to? How will I stalk her at all her SUPERNATURALLY signings and not have her know I'm a fraud??????
But my worries were COMPLETELY unfounded.
Evie is still her hilarious, lovable self, the plot is still fast paced and keeps you guessing, the new characters are layered and interesting, and the whole thing is just so refreshingly fun and entertaining--it's sort of a breath of fresh air amongst all the post-Apocalyptic dystopians (and I'm not knocking dystopians. I loves me some post-Apocalyptic mayhem. But it's nice to have some variety too!). And as an added bonus: there is a whole lot more kissing! Some of it sweet. Some of it steamy. Some of it hilarious. Lots and lots and lots of it.
Do I need to keep going? I don't think I do. (I mean, I did mention the kissing, right?) But don't just take my word for it. SUPERNATURALLY launches into the world on July 26th and I STRONGLY recommend you pick up a copy. And for those of you who can't bear to wait, I'm sharing my ARC with one lucky winner.
To enter, make sure you follow my blog and leave a comment by 11:59 pm PDT on Saturday, July 16th. I'll draw one random winner and post their name on Sunday, July 17th. International entries welcome. (And I know that's a fast contest, but next week I'll be gone at Comic Con, so I want to make sure I can get the winner their prize.)
