Tell the Truth Tuesday: The Overwhelmed Shannon edition

1. I know I'm supposed to be finishing my Shannon Style revision series today, but sadly I just don't have the time. Also, I kind of feel like this:

2. It's really my own fault. For some strange reason EVERYTHING was happening in February and March. And apparently I went crazypants and was like: well hello tiny slot of empty space in my already full calendar: I SHOULD FILL YOU.

3. No really. For example: On Thursday I'm now driving up to Big Sur for the AB Lit Big Sur Writer's Workshop.

4. I was not planning to go to this workshop. I wanted to go. But I was not planning it. After all, I was JUST at the San Francisco Writers Conference last week.

5. But, through a series of strange coincidences and events (plus lots and lots of emails), I am now going.

6. Part of me is SO RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED I can't stop doing this:

7. The other, more practical part of me is thinking about laundry and packing up again and the seven hour drive from So Cal to Big Sur (yes...SEVEN HOURS!!!!)--not to mention cleaning my pages up enough for the intense critiques--and feeling like this:

8. So...I apologize in advance for being a bit like this:

9. I am dropping all kinds of balls right now as I scramble to keep up with everything, and I AM SO SORRY IF YOU ARE ONE OF THEM. If I owe you pages or an email or a phone call there *may* be a slight delay. BUT I WILL GET TO IT I PROMISE!!!!!

10. And on that bombshell: Thank you for reading. Thank you for commenting. Thank you for your support and for bearing with me. I'm picking up all kinds of cool things: contest prizes, stories and pictures to share, info to pass on, etc. But I know I'm kind of being a crappy blogger in the process. I WILL MAKE IT UP TO YOU.

What about you guys? Any truths you want to get of your chest? Lay them on me in the comments!

  1. Good luck at the conference. I'm sure you'll have a blast. Drive safely.

Truth: I've fallen back into my second novel, deciding I can't give up on it yet. I said I wouldn't. I've failed. LOL Just wrote a new beginning.

  2. Have fun. I know what it's like to be insanely busy. That was my month of February. I'm glad things are slowing down a tad. Take a break from the blog if you need to or switch to posting 3 days a week. We'll still be there.

And BTW, the announcement that I'm going to be a blog partner with Casey will be posted on Monday. I'm so excited. And I'm interviewing Cheryl Klein from Arthur Levine about her new book on next Friday with a giveaway. I hope you'll stop by.

  3. Hey, take a break. Post that your blog is going on a one-week hiatus or something. We'll still be here when you get back.

And have a great time in Big Sur!

  4. I bet you'll appreciate it when you get there! I had an insanely busy week last week, so I know how it feels. Make sure you take time for a peaceful moment or two!

  5. Those pictures are sooo hilarious! Have fun at the conference! And don't worry about us! I've certainly let my blog duties lapse from time to time. :)

  6. Have fun at the conferences.

Truth: I have written anything new in over three months. I'm in the query waiting process and I just can't seem to motivation myself to start writing.

    sigh.

I also spend too much time blogging while I should be working.

  8. "Dude. Wait, what?" Haha, I think that is my life motto at the moment. :D

Sorry you're overwhelmed! And 7 hours drive... hopefully you'll get to drive along the coast for part/ most of it, so at least the journey is beautiful! Have fun!

  9. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY DANCE!!! I'm going to be there, too! Can't wait to meet you in person.

Oh, and don't feel bad. I killed our printer last night getting ready for the workshop. Okay, just the toner, but it's still a *headdesk*.

  10. Those photos are great. I especially love the hoppy bunny. :)

Oh, and don't worry about your regularly scheduled programming. I read for all sorts of updates. Besides, you go to contests and learn something amazing and maybe you'll share. Win win.

  11. Hey, I'm actually getting there Thursday as well. Would you want to go grab dinner Thursday night?

  12. The sad truth is that I am alternating between commenting on blogs like yours and live-tweeting my reading of The Liar Society, and not doing my job. (Hangs head in shame, but looks nowhere near as cute as the kittehz)

I would likely be fired if I weren't self-employed. Maybe I still will be.

  13. Safe travels and have fun at the conference. And remember: Pause...deep breath...exhale slowly...and GO!

    Cheers!

  16. You totally deserve a break. You know if you go on a few day vacation...or a few week vacation, we'd always come back to read what you post. We all might be slightly addicted to the lovely Shannon shame and awesome kitty pictures :) Have a great time this weekend!

  17. But at least you are blogging and posting cute pictures of cats and going to conferences and workshops and being part of WriteOnCon, so I think you should cut yourself some slack.

(And if you can't, I've discovered quite late in life a useful little word for when I get insanely busy: "no")

    Have fun at Big Sur!

  18. Enjoy the conference. And don't worry, we'll all be here stalking, I mean waiting for you when you come back.

  19. Hang in there, Shannon! It'll settle down for you soon. You got through the Write on Con chat with flying colors. And the con will be over before you know it. I'm sure more will come flying at you, but one day at a time...

My truth is that it's lunch time and I'm still in pajamas.

  20. Loved the pictures! Hang in there, everything will work out. :)

  21. You ARE busy! Well, at least it's fun right? :)

Don't poop yourself out too much and remember to sleep!

  22. Hey! I'll be at the workshop too. I feel your pain on the revision panic, though not on the drive because I'm flying up on Friday morning. See you there!

  23. Truth: This is the first time I've read your blog, but I enjoyed it. I've been battling procrastination and distractability, and lately they have been winning over writing, mostly because I'm revising, not writing. Today, I intend on diving back in. Good luck with your busy week/month/life.

  24. You will be so glad you went to the conference. I went this past December (and the one in Boulder last May). They are INCREDIBLE and most definitely worth a 7 hour drive. Have fun and be inspired!

  25. Have fun at the conference! Just hang in there--things will settle down!

    Great pictures. :)

  26. We understand! You have a lot going on.

My truth: I wish I had your energy. I'm tired just thinking about that drive to Big Sur.lol

  27. Cool, didn't know you were going to Big Sur. I'm flying up Friday morning with my critique partner Rachel. Can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Have so much fun at Big Sur! I can't wait to hear all about it!

  29. No worries! Have fun at your conference. I'm feeling a bit head-explody at the moment, myself. I just keep avoiding those good time-management classes, though... :)

  30. It's okay. I'm only blogging once or twice a week right now because it's what I can do. I hope you have a blast at your conference. I wish I were going now just to meet my bloggy friends who've said they're going to be there. But really, I couldn't.

Yay-I love comments! Thank you so much! (But please remember to keep your comments spoiler-free. Also, I try to keep this a happy, positive place. Friendly debate is fine, but always be kind to each other). <3
