Marvelous Middle Grade Monday: A World Without Heroes--and A SIGNED ARC GIVEAWAY!!!

Yes--it's true. MMGM is BACK! Sooooooooo sorry for all the delays.

And to reward you guys for your loyal patience, I thought I'd jump back in by giving away one of the most highly anticipated Middle Grade ARCs out there. Oh yeah, and it's signed!

But before we get to that--lets talk quickly about the AMAZING book. It's the first in the BEYONDERS books, a brand new series by the one and only Brandon Mull (of Fablehaven fame). And I can tell you right now: it. is. awesome!

I have a hard time talking about it without giving anything away--so I'm going to stick to the official info from the publisher.

Jason Walker has often wished his life could be a bit less predictable--until a routine day at the zoo ends with Jason suddenly transporting from the hippo tank to a place unlike anything he's ever seen. In the past, the people of Lyrian welcmoed visitors from the Beyond, but attitudes have changed since the wizard emperor Maldor rose to power. The brave resistors who opposed the emperor have been bought off or broken, leaving a realm where fear and suspicion prevail.

In his search for a way home, Jason meets Rachel, who was also mysteriously drawn to Lyrian from our world. With the help of a few scattered rebels, Jason and Rachel become entangled in a quest to piece together the word of power that can destroy the emperor, and learn that their best hope to find a way home will be to save this world without heroes.

Too cool, right?

I think what I love best about this book is that it's the book Brandon wanted to write for 10 years. It's more "high fantasy" than his other stuff, which made publishers a little wary. But with Fablehaven under his belt they finally gave him the chance and the end result is brilliant. And that's coming from a girl who's not AS big of a fan of high fantasy. So that should tell you something.

I think the lovely blurb sums it up best:

"An irresistable mix of adventure, humor, and magic."
-Rick Riordan

The hardcover comes out tomorrow (SQUEE!) so make sure you get thee to the bookstore to buy it! But before you do, I also have an extra special prize for you guys here. I caught Brandon at a SCIBA event a few weeks ago, and was lucky enough to score an ARC--which I had him sign:

And I'm giving it away to one lucky commenter! To enter, make sure you follow my blog, and leave a comment by 11:59 pm PST on Saturday, March 19th. I'll draw one random winner and post their name on Sunday, March 20th. International entries welcome.

So far I haven't heard from anyone doing a MMGM (probably cause I've dropped the ball for a few weeks.) But if you've done an MMGM feature on your blog, email me a link and I will update this post.

  9. I don't even know how you're blogging at all! You do so much, Shannon. Alright then, I will wish you a mountain of Pepsi and twizzlers to get you through this next week, okay? Let me know if you need anything at all.

Also, this book sounds awesome! So many great middle grade fantasies--or there aren't and you just find them all! It's too bad there aren't more boy-friendly books in YA.

  10. Yay for MMGM! I love this feature and especially love hearing you gush about these novels. I can't wait until you feature your own on here (it better be signed :))! That blurb by Rick Roirdan is stellar (I almost went back to erase that word, then I figured I should leave it up as punishment for using the word "stellar." Can't help it. I'm a product of my time and environment). Happy Monday!
